Prevention of Sex trafficking through Female Empowerment, Education and Micro-enterprise development

For the program, GWP has been implementing different activities and strategies to achieve the following goals and objectives.

  • Anti-trafficking Campaign and awareness
  • Capacity building of vulnerable girls/women who are potential for trafficking.
  • Raising awareness to promote Sexual health seeking behaviour
  • Saving & Credit & Micro-enterprise development activities for vulnerable girls/women.

GWP has been implementing Prevention of Sex trafficking through Female Empowerment, Education and Micro-enterprise development Program in collaboration with The Body-Shop, GPI  as well as collaborating with other available NGOs and INGOs who are working in the same field with same mission in Nepal.

The program activities have developed 100 SHGs groups(having 15 members in each group) from adolescents/young and marginal females of rural/peri-urban areas, targeting survivors including but not limited to ;Brothels returnees, circus returnees as well as those identified as possibly vulnerable to trafficking.

Presently out of 100 SHGs 50 are operating in a sustainable manner. In one group we do have 15 girls members and with 1 member they do have 9 family members in average. Therefore in this manner we support 13500 community people for their livelihood. These groups are running Goat Farming, Mushroom Production, Paper Products, Poultry Farming and Ginger Farming.

GWP has also developed the peer communicators and facilitators from the group members and mobilized them in their communities to raise awareness on trafficking Prevention, promoting sexual health seeking behaviour, reducing gender based violence and socio-cultural discrimination in the community. For this purpose we use Peer Communication, Outreach activities, Street Dramas, Focus group Discussions, Mass Rally, and so on.

The organization managed and conducted different training on capacity building as well as skill development. GWP has given training on hand made paper making, candle making from wax, chicken farming, and goat farming, and so on.

From the skill training program GWP managed to provide various skill trainings among more than 1500 girls.
